The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Florida First Coast Chapter awarded five 澳门足彩app projects Eagle Awards, the chapter’s highest recognition.
The following projects received awards:
- Boynton Beach City Hall and Library

The ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards program serves to raise the level of construction standards by recognizing the workmanship of those who contribute and by showcasing the results of their commitment. Entries are judged on execution of design, quality of craftsmanship, attention to detail, proper installation, outstanding planning and coordination efforts, challenges successfully overcome, project complexity, custom materials, safety programs and owner satisfaction.
Eagle Award winners must earn 80% or more of the eligible points and score highest in their category. Eagle and Award of Merit winning projects are eligible to enter the National ABC Excellence in Construction competition.
Boynton Beach City Hall and Library
澳门足彩app was one of the first design-build partners hired for the City of Boynton Beach Town Square Redevelopment Project and was the prime design-build partner selected for the Boynton Beach City Hall and Library. This was a unique Public-Private-Partnership (P3) project in which CFP was the owner of the facilities, holding the contract with 澳门足彩app. E2L Real Estate Solutions was the Construction Manager for CFP, and the City of Boynton Beach was the end user who leased the building from CFP.
The master plan for the new four city block redevelopment illustrates a city hall and library, fire station, parking garages, residential housing, restaurants, civic center, children’s museum, playgrounds, amphitheater and includes all new utilities, roads and other site amenities to support a large scale development as well as areas for future development.
The 澳门足彩app team and its partners designed and constructed the new 102,000-square-foot (SF) City Hall and Library as well as all site utilities. Demolition of existing structures was also a part of this contract. A 2,700-ton Central Energy Plant (CEP) was constructed under a separate contract.
As the project progressed, the owner continued to push their vision of a world-class facility and a new beginning for their downtown district. They enhanced the project program by adding $2.5 million of scope from their own contingency funds, including a significant playground four times the size originally planned, an outdoor amphitheater twice as large as originally planned and increased safety and security for the public. All the additional work was completed within the original project schedule.
Ericsson Factory of the Future
澳门足彩app’s task was to design a state of the art, fully automated “Factory of the Future” for 5G telecommunications equipment. The design consisted of tenant improvements to a spec warehouse (306,000 SF) that included a two-story office space, large manufacturing area (ISO 8 Clean room), a command center, an automated warehouse, support systems (production utilities, kitchen, IT, and café areas) and a solar voltaic automobile covered parking lot. The facility was required to meet LEED® Gold certification.
The greatest challenge for 澳门足彩app during this project was to provide initial production capability within three months of mobilization.
Ericsson’s desire for speed-to-market required innovative methods of coordination and sequencing between the builders and designers. Stakeholders assisted the development of innovative solutions to new criteria while maintaining a project budget and schedule. Additional site encumbrances presented challenges of trying to start work in the building shell while the original permit was not yet closed. The design documents contained information from 3D BIM models and were coordinated in a virtual environment while placed in the field.
Design and construction teams met weekly to review the project’s progress with access to the design model in the field as adjustments were made to coordinate the installation of overhead and underground utilities with refrigeration, electrical feeds, back-up systems, and manufacturing equipment. The main success was meeting 14 subsequent Temporary Certificates of Occupancy on time, allowing the owner to progressively start production as areas were completed.
Norwegian Cruise Line Terminal B
The new Cruise Terminal B for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is a modern flagship terminal that unites function and form in vibrant Miami, Florida. This nautilus-inspired landmark was delivered under a construction management at risk contract (CMAR) by the NV2A-澳门足彩app Joint Venture (JV) at PortMiami.
This $232 million, 546,757 SF project includes a new terminal building, with all back-of-house operations for security, baggage handling and screening and ground transportation areas for buses, rideshare and personal vehicles. The project also boasts a multi-purpose provisioning building for supporting ship operations, waste disposal and general provisioning. This building houses the main MEP systems, such as main switchgear, emergency generator, HVAC chiller systems and communications backbone. An 809-space precast parking structure is also included.
Although the project was delivered via CMAR, the JV created “design-assist” packages for design and scope management that brought an over-budget concept into operational parameters. Design progressed from simple renderings to permit drawings within three months and advanced as a GMP was developed. Further, never-before-seen use of virtual construction technology drove the project to completion with unprecedented speed and an unmatched level of quality.
The 189,730 SF cruise terminal, which will earn LEED® Gold designation, consists of 8,221 tons of structural steel with a façade of more than 110,000 SF of curtainwall glazing. Completed on an active cruise ship active berth and requiring coordination among 12 different permitting agencies, the project also includes a 340,730 SF parking garage and 16,297 SF warehouse.
The project uses 8.91% small business enterprise (SBE) participation on construction subcontracts and 3% participation on goods & services contracts.
United Airlines MRO Hangar
澳门足彩app was selected to design and construct an 86,200 SF twin-bay MRO hangar that included 67,000 SF of hangar plus 19,200 SF of office and support space as well as an additional 190,000 SF of exterior aircraft apron and taxiway connection.
The hangar is designed to allow two B737s to be parked inside with a B757 nested between them. The hangar door opening is 290-feet x 48-feet, 6 inches to allow for the entry of the B757. The exterior aircraft apron allows for three aircraft parking positions with utility racks at each parking position. The apron is designed to accommodate an A321.
The project also included a 100-space parking lot for maintenance employees and support staff.
Unique utility requirements at the Narrow Body Line Maintenance Hangar include fire water storage tanks (345,000 gallons) and pumps, detention/retention ponds (72,000 gallons) and oil/water separators. The High Expansion Foam (HEF) fire protection system includes 12 HEF generators and three 3,000-gallon-per-minute Diesel Fire Pumps. The facility also includes 12 utility pits within the hangar; six cabin air pits and six ground power and compressed air pits.
This design-build project was procured with a best-value approach to award of the key trades. 澳门足彩app’s subcontractor selection criteria included third -financial stress tests, safety performance, past performance on similar projects, adherence to budget, 澳门足彩app’s internal reviews (if applicable) and ability to execute the schedule.
United Airlines Catering Kitchen
During the fall of 2019, 澳门足彩app was approached by United Airlines to build a 218,000 SF catering facility that produced prepackaged foods and beverages for their flights.
The project’s purpose stemmed from the expansion of the Newark Liberty International Airport. United’s existing operations were located on airport property that was to be converted to a new terminal expansion. A nearby warehouse was selected for conversion to a food safe, commercial kitchen. The new site’s proximity to the airport minimized down time of the catering trucks, which was a top priority.
Accessibility to the Newark airport required special considerations and infrastructure to accommodate communications with catering trucks at the airport and along the route to-and-from the new production building. The new site had limited parking space as this project was part of a large, multi-tenant building for employees, airplane catering trucks, and product delivery of supplies and food that were mixed into the site with an adjacent tenant that had their own schedule and need for truck circulation. The facility was designed to meet TSA security requirements, but with improved food safety, hygiene, and efficiency standards required to maintain a competitive advantage in the airline market.
The screening of the roof-top refrigeration systems was a key success point for integration into the local community and the zoning regulations for the City of Newark. In addition to meeting United’s current needs, the facility was designed to comfortably accommodate the next twenty years of projected growth and expansion as well. This ensured the long-term usability of the facility and demonstrated the commitment that United Airlines has made to the Ironbound, New Jersey community.
